# Request options

Cancel a call, change its deadline or disable GET retries.

## Import

## Options

| Option | Type | Default / requirement | Purpose |

| signal | AbortSignal | Optional | Caller cancellation. |
| timeoutMs | integer | Client default | Override the total deadline, 1–300,000 ms. |
| retry | false | Optional | Disable retry for this request. Per-request retry tuning is not supported. |

Pass options as the final method argument. When a method has an optional query or scope argument, pass `{}` for that argument first.

## Example

const controller = new AbortController()

const request = relay.rooms.list(
  { limit: 20 },
  { signal: controller.signal, timeoutMs: 5000, retry: false },
)

controller.abort()
await request.catch((error) => console.log(error.code))
```

## Failures

Cancellation throws `REQUEST_CANCELLED`. Deadline expiry throws `REQUEST_TIMEOUT`. The deadline includes attempts, backoff and reading the response body.
